Content:
Franz Kafka's writings are fascinating and irritating. They are bewildering and disturbing, and those very qualities draw readers into their spell. The Hamburg-based artist Stefanie Harjes has been inspired by them to create extraordinary illustrations. "Kafka and I" is the visually stunning tale of her "mad passion" for one of the most significant writers of the twentieth century, and offers a unique opportunity to acquaint young people with this author's work.

Excerpts from his novels and stories alternate with text miniatures.
The Illustrator:
Stefanie Harjes was born in Bremen in 1967 and started talking seven months later. She studied Illustration and Painting at the Hamburg University of Design, which also led her to Prague, among other places. Since 1994, she has worked as a freelance illustrator of books, magazines, ceramics and films. In 2001, Harjes received a sponsorship award from the city of Troisdorf.
