Carla and Sara, both 14, are best friends. Sarah enjoys reading or playing music while Carla wants nothing more than to be famous - preferably in films or on TV. She sees a casting call for a new television series in the newspaper. They are looking for a new, fresh girl's face. After much deliberation Carla convinces her friend Sarah to try out at the audition, too. The girls register at the casting agency and receive a text to memorize before their interview. Carla is incredibly nervous because she's never been so close to her dream! She is further stressed by her father demanding she concentrate on getting better grades at school. When Carla and Sarah arrive at the agency on casting day there are already 20 other girls there, all gazing critically at Carla and Sarah. While the girls wait a young man comes down the hall. Carla can't believe her eyes: it's Ralf Schäfer, the star of a TV series who Carla finds mega cool! Before Carla can gather up the courage to ask Ralf Schäfer for an autograph he disappears behind a door. Then it's Carla's turn. She is called into a room and eyed critically by five adults. She has to move in front of the movie camera to see how she would look on TV. She's asked to act the part she learned with a boy. Carla finds the boy totally cute, which robs her of what's left of her concentration, and she stumbles over her lines. Finally she finishes and can go. Then it's Sarah's turn, and it all goes more smoothly. She doesn't have any expectations for the audition, so she appears more natural and self-confident. Several days later Sarah receives a call from the agency. She is invited back for the next round of auditions. Sarah doesn't mention it to Carla hoping that she, too, will be called. But that doesn't happen... But, through a dumb coincidence, Carla hears about Sarah's second appointment and the two friends have a huge fight. Sarah is almost relieved when she doesn't get the role after the second audition, even though she has proven herself to be a great talent. Now she can approach Carla again. Maybe Carla will be happy to see that Sarah got her an autograph from Ralf Schäfer... |

About the Series: |
The Short & Easy series has a clear concept: Short texts on subjects that interest young people will grab the attention of even reluctant readers and motivate them to keep reading. Language and sentence construction are kept simple, and lots of dialogue keeps the stories flowing. The accompanying drawings and illustrations help readers' comprehension. The stories have a logical flow to them, but rather than having a neat, clean resolution they leave questions open for further reflection and discussion. |
